The first seven singles he released – “Model,” “Se mig nu,” “Hva’ så,” “Drikker for lidt,” “Nemt,” “Guld jul” and “Ked af det” – all reached the top of the Danish charts, with “Se mig nu,” “Drikker for lidt,” “Guld jul” and “Ked af det” debuting straight at number one.

Jan Monrad var en dansk komiker, sanger og entertainer, mest berømt som den ene i duoen Monrad & Rislund; hans samarbejdspartner var Søren Rislund. Han fik sin første uddannelse af en folkeskolelærer, hvor han blandt andet underviste i musik og samfundsfag. Monrad trådte ind i underholdningsverdenen i begyndelsen af 1970'erne med shows i København. I 1974 udgav han sin debutsingle “Kød på bordet”. Året efter gik han sammen med Søren Rislund og bandet Totalpetroleum; de to havde kendt hinanden siden første klasse på Frederiksberg Skole.
