Nawaal Akram, a Qatari comedian, model, athlete and disability‑rights activist, learned at six that she has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. At ten the school forced her out of class against her will, and by twelve she began using a wheelchair. She later founded Muscular Dystrophy Qatar to spread knowledge about the condition and was included in the BBC’s 100 Women list in 2017.
