Biography
Born approximately in 1988 in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, Kieran Hodgson is a British entertainer who works as a character comedian, actor, and writer. He attended Holmfirth High School and Greenhead College in Huddersfield before studying History and French at Balliol College, Oxford, where he graduated with a first-class degree. Hodgson's initial forays into comedy included performances such as 'French Exchange' in 2014, recognized by The Times as one of the 'Top five of the Free Fringe,' and 'Lance,' concerning Lance Armstrong in 2015, which received a nomination for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. He also appeared in episodes of Jonathan Creek (as Ridley) and Drifters during 2015, demonstrating his versatility as an actor.
Hodgson’s work often blends character-driven comedy with narrative explorations of diverse subjects. He has played Ian Lavender in the BBC Two drama We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story (2015) and starred in The Lentil Sorters on BBC Radio 4 (2017). His appearances extend to television shows like Siblings, Count Arthur Strong, and the film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (2017), alongside his regular role as Gordon on the BBC sitcom Two Doors Down since 2017. A lifelong fascination with American accents and the concept of the American dream, dating back to his childhood, informs Hodgson's current performance, 'Voice of America.' This show examines global perceptions of the United States and incorporates impersonations of historical figures including prospectors and former Presidents. Hodgson’s 2016 show, 'Maestro,' exploring classical music and his life, was also nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
Beyond his stage and screen work, Kieran Hodgson is a keen musician, playing both violin and piano and having been a member of the North London Sinfonia from 2012 to 2020. In August 2017, Kieran Hodgson hosted 'Kieran Hodgson's Earworms' on Radio 4; previously, he also hosted a two-hour classical music program on student radio, during which he played a single piece of music lasting ninety minutes. During 2022, Hodgson took on the role of Prince Andrew in Channel 4’s 'Prince Andrew: The Musical,' contributing to both the music and lyrics, and provided narration for Denise Mina's 'Three Fires' on BBC Radio. He appeared in The Flash (2023) as Sandwich Guy. Hodgson has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award four times, and was recently recognized by The Telegraph as one of the 50 funniest comedians of the 21st century. In January 2025, he won BBC Celebrity Mastermind with Mahler as his specialized subject. Currently, he is performing 'Voice of America' at the Citizens Theatre, a show running for 110 minutes and exploring his passion for classical music.
