The Bajon
Biography
Anne-Sophie Bajon, known professionally as La Bajon, is a French comedian, author, and humorist. Born on June 27, 1978, in Yerres (Essonne), she experienced an early change of identity, being adopted at three months old and originally named Souad Yasmina. Her comedic journey began during her teenage years when she participated in an improvisation troupe and received stage direction from Jack Waltzer. At age fifteen, she gave her first performance at the Saint-Pierre de Brunoy high school, marking the start of a career that would span various platforms.
La Bajon’s comedy style is characterized by satire, provocation, and black humor, often drawing inspiration from current events and social issues. She utilizes this approach to denounce social injustices and frequently critiques contemporary politics, society, media, and behaviors. Her work incorporates recurring characters who champion impossible causes and includes improvised exchanges, ensuring each performance is distinct. Influenced by the comedic styles of Coluche and Pierre Desproges, La Bajon aims to elicit laughter rather than offense, employing quick wit and repartee. She gained initial recognition through viral videos on social media, which reached over 100 million views by the end of 2018.
Throughout her career, La Bajon has appeared in various shows and projects. In 2010, she contributed sketches to the television show Le Soiring on France 2, and co-created the web series Souad fait le bilan with Martin Darondeau. She opened for Jérôme Daran at Bobino in December 2011 and performed in Les Wanted from October 2012 to May 2013. In 2014, she was a finalist in the Les Impertinentes competition and collaborated with Vincent Leroy as a co-writer. A YouTube video portraying Penelope Fillon's lawyer gained significant attention in 2017, and she parodied Braveheart in relation to the Gilets Jaunes movement the following year. She performed her show Vous couperez at the Casino de Paris in 2019 and toured France with it from 2018 to 2020. In 2022, she presented L'Extraterrienne , and currently performs "Zen," which combines satirical observations with personal anecdotes including explorations of her childhood and the discovery of a biological sister.
